The Center’s dance program offers progressive levels
of training in ballet, jazz, hip-hop and tap.
Ballet Students
Ballet classes emphasize proper technique, body alignment, weight
placement, use of correct positions, and basic vocabulary. (Ballet
is strongly suggested for all students serious about dance and is
required for participation in Center dance companies).
Dress Code:
Girls -
Solid black leotard, pink nylon tights, and pink ballet
slippers Hair must be worn up, neatly clipped or pinned away
from the face and neck. A classic bun is preferred. No large
bows, clips or adornments are allowed. No watches or other
jewelry may be worn in class. During the winter months close
fitting pink or black leg warmers and sweaters may be worn for
barre exercises only.
Boys -
White T-shirt, black tights, white socks, white ballet shoes.
Tap Students
Tap
classes begin with basic fundamentals and progress to emphasis
on clarity of sound, rhythm, and proper execution of technique.
Dress Code: Same
as jazz. Tap shoes required. Flat tap shoes for girls under
12 unless special permission is granted by the instructor for heeled
tap shoe. Capezio taps preferred.
Jazz Students
The jazz program focuses on four components; flexibility,
technique, style and movement, and music awareness.
Dress Code:
Girls - Solid colored leotards and
tights in student's choice of color; unitards are also permitted;
jazz oxfords, half soles or ballet slippers are all permitted.
Absolutely no T-shirts or sweat shirts of any kind. During
the winter months close fitting leggings or leg warmers and dance
sweaters may be worn.
Boys - Solid colored T-shirts, (cropped at the waist), slim
fitting sweat pants or jazz slacks in gray or black. Jazz oxfords
or ballet slippers permitted.
* NOTE - All Jazz Company members will be asked to purchase
a base leotard for performance.
Hip-Hop
Hip-Hop allows students to explore contemporary urban styles of
dance.
