Musical Theater
Classes in our Musical Theater Department allow students a chance to discover their individual talents and interests while exploring the basics of singing, dancing, and acting. Musical Theater classes focus on fundamental performing arts skills, emphasizing creative expression and fun.
These courses work on developing children’s abilities in singing, dancing, and acting. The instructor focuses on each skill individually and then work to put them all together in a fun, creative and expressive way. The activities in this class are geared toward improving and enhancing the student’s self-image and self confidence. Imagination and creativity are essential components in this class. Through the use of age appropriate materials the instructor (s) ultimate goal is for each student to enjoy what he/she is learning through doing and to gain an appreciation for the arts
All Rehearsal and Performance company classes work on applying student’s training to a rehearsal and performance environment. It is through this class that students will explore a more professional working environment that will require discipline, personal accountability and rehearsal etiquette while developing their own rehearsal process. The activities in this class are geared toward improving and enhancing the student’s self-image and self confidence. Imagination and creativity are essential components in this class. Center Productions
Center productions include the High School Musical, the All School Musical, Performance Workshop, Theater Company, and Comedy Improv. Students whose schedules do not permit regular attendance should not audition or register for productions.
The All School Musical which is performed in the spring is open to ANY CENTER STUDENT from third grade through eighth grade. No auditions are necessary to become a cast member, and all members have guaranteed participation. The Center’s High School Musical is open to all Center students eighth grade through twelfth grade, and like the All School Musical, does not require auditions to become a cast member.
Participation in these groups requires commitment to the company and an understanding that an individual’s involvement impacts the entire ensemble.
Touring Company
Touring Company is a musical theater performance troupe that performs at community, corporate, and educational events, other performance companies include: Theater Company and Performance Workshop.
Students involved in CTA Touring Company will be expected to perform a fully staged 30 minute musical revue. The content in this performance company is age appropriate will be geared towards public performances. The members of CTA Touring Company will be expected to attend all rehearsals and performances ready and willing to apply their training and performance abilities. This ensemble environment allows the company members to apply all the elements of theatre, dance, vocal training and rehearsal and performance etiquette.
Auditions for Touring Company are held in August. All information, as well as preliminary meeting date, will be in the Newsletter, fall brochure, and posted on Center bulletin boards, and email. Upon admittance to Touring Company, students are required to be registered in and regularly attend Ballet and Voice classes appropriate to their levels.
Admittance to these companies is only for students currently registered in Center classes.
